Burks, Strong, Brown, Junior Drafted

Treylon Burks of Warren was the first of four Arkansas High School products selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Burks was selected in the first round as the 18th pick overall by the Tennessee Titans. Pierre Strong of McClellan was picked in the fourth round by the New England Patriots as the 127th pick overall while Gregory Junior of Crossett was selected in the sixth round and the 197th pick overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Montaric Brown of Ashdown was also selected by the Jacksonville Jaquars in the seventh round as the 222nd pick overall.

Burks made an impact from the beginning of his career for the Arkansas Razorbacks after a star-studded high school career at Warren.

Burks, a 6-2, 225 pound junior, was selected All-Southeastern Conference first team in 2021, and All-Southeastern Conference second team in both 2020 and 2019.

Burks caught 66 passes for 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Razorbacks this past season, becoming just the fourth Razorback receiver to reach the 1,000-yard receiving plateau. He caught 51 passes for 820 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore, and 29 passes for 475 yards as a freshman.

Burks missed the last half of his senior season at Warren but still scored 79 touchdowns in his career with 44 touchdown receptions, 27 rushing scores, three punt returns, two kickoff returns and three interceptions for touchdowns. Burks also threw three touchdown passes in his career.

Burks is the first first-round Arkansas High School product since running back Darren McFadden out of Pulaski Oak Grove went fourth overall to the Oakland Raiders in 2008.

Strong was a Division II All-American after rushing for 1,686 yards and 18 touchdowns. In his career, Strong rushed for 4,527 yards and 40 touchdowns, including three straight seasons of at least 1,000 yards rushing.

At McClellan, Strong ran 189 times for 2,264 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior to lead the Lions to the state championship game. As a senior, he ran for 1,423 yards and 25 touchdowns in nine games before a collarbone fracture sidelined him the final three games of the season.

At Crossett, Junior was a three-sport athlete. Junior played defensive back, hit .362 in baseball and averaged 3.4 points per game for the basketball team. At an NFL combine, he bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times. At Ouachita Baptist, he was named All-Great American Conference.

At Ashdown, Brown was a two-way threat. His senior season, Brown intercepted seven passes, returning one for a touchdown, and also caught 52 passes for 813 yards and eight scores. As a junior, Brown intercepted five passes, returning three for touchdowns. He was selected for the US Army All-American game.

Their selections extend to 21 straight years in which an Arkansas high school football player has been selected in the NFL Draft.

Norwood Drafted

Fort Smith Northside's Tre Norwood was selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft as the 245th pick overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The redshirt junior started 24 games for the Sooners in three seasons. This past season, Norwood intercepted five passes, which tied him for the most in the Big 12 and was third nationally.

Norwood was named the Outstanding Defensive Player in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic after returning an interception 45 yards for a touchdown in Oklahoma's 55-20 win over Florida.

He also had a season-high six tackles and an interception in front of tight end Charlie Kollar in the end zone in the second quarter of Oklahoma's 27-21 win over Iowa State in the Big 12 championship game.

Norwood was a three-star recruit coming out of Northside in 2016 after being named to the Arkansas Sports Media Super Team. He played six games to begin his sophomore season at Van Buren before transferring to Northside and was eligible midway of his junior season for the Grizzlies.

Norwood threw for 281 yards and a touchdown as a senior at Nortside and led the team in rushing with 785 yards and nine touchdowns.

Norwood's dad, Michael Jr., was an All-State quarterback at Van Buren in 1991.

Norwood's selection extends to 20 straight years in which an Arkansas high school football player has been selected in the NFL draft.
